Change Order No. 1 will reimburse the contractor the additional cost incurred for having to dig a 300 feet 48-inch tunnel to free the stuck missile in order to complete pipe enlargement across the highway. Burns Construction, Inc., in the amount of $142,500.00 for Sanitary Sewer Rehabilitation, Contract 81 for a revised total contract in the amount of $1,370,705.00. DISCUSSION: On August 7, 2012, (M&C C-25778) the City Council authorized a contract with M.E. Burns Construction, Inc., in the amount of $1,228,205.00 for Sanitary Sewer Rehabilitation, Contract 81. The original design provided for six to eight inch sewer replacement across and underneath State Highway 287 from Killian Street to Miller Street, via trenchless pipe enlargement method. However, previously unknown concrete encasement was encountered during construction that caused the pipe enlargement missile to become stuck. Change Order No. 1 wili reimburse the contractor the additional cost incurred for having to dig a 300 foot, 48-inch tunnel to free the stuck missile in order to complete pipe enlargement across the highway. M/SBE - A M/SBE waiver was granted by the M/WBE office for this change order due to contractor self performance and non-WBE subcontractor account for the significant portion of the work. This project is located in COUNCIL DISTRICT 5.
