The poles are typically anchored via a steel base plate to a concrete foundation and have hand-hole covers for interior inspection. We propose to assess the condition of each pole by performing a visual inspection of the base of each pole. We will also use an ultrasonic thickness gauge to nondestructively measure the thickness of steel at representative locations near the base of each pole for the purposes of evaluating corrosion. Additionally, if hand-hole covers are not present to allow interior inspection, WJE will drill a half-inch diameter hole at representative poles to visually inspect the interiors with a borescope. If holes are drilled, they will not be repaired, but primer will be applied to the exposed cut surfaces as needed. If available from the City, WJE will review drawings, product information, and previous inspection reports related to the subject poles to become more familiar with the design, construction, and past performance of the poles. WJE will prepare a written report that summarizes tasks performed, evaluation procedures, findings, and conclusions.A single report including observations for all facilities will be prepared, pursuant to your request. Representative photographs of poles and diagrams showing pole location and characteristics will be included in the report. If appropriate, the report will include conceptual recommendations for remedial action or recommendations for more detailed investigative tasks. We expect that any remedial recommendations provided in the report will be described using narrative only. Page 1 WJE WJE's scope of services excludes the following tasks, which can be performed as additional services upon request: ■ Preparation of drawings and specifications for repairs or replacement of the poles ■ Nondestructive evaluation of exposed welds using magnetic particle or dye penetrant testing ■ Excavation around pole bases to expose below-grade components of the foundations ■ Evaluation of other poles at the subject facilities not included in the count you provided to us, such as poles providing lighting for parking lots or other athletic fields not listed in Table 1 ■ Assessment of luminaires, wiring, or other non-structural components For budgeting purposes, we have assumed that access to all facilities will be provided simultaneously such that the inspections can be completed over the course of three days.Additional trips may result in additional fees beyond the estimated budget. We expect that we can complete the inspection within approximately four weeks from receipt of a notice- to-proceed. After the inspection, we anticipate completing a report within approximately five weeks.
