Fort VVc1rih, Phone 817-877-5571-Fax:8,17-877-4245- ........... January 2,1 31 20113 Mr. Michael Perkins, P.E. Project Manager City of Fort Worth 1000 Throckm, orton Street Fort,Worth, Texas 76102 Re: AMENDMENT No 1 COFW Project 01068, Cedar Breaks Storm Drain Extension Mr., Perkins, Originally, the Cedar Breaks scope was to extend the existing storm drain from the southwest end of Cedar Breaks Drive to the west end of Mesa Verde Trail. When survey and SUE were conducted, numerous utility conflicts were revealed. These conflicts, along with an existing concrete roads ayY made the preliminary engineer 11 s estimate approximately $583,000. At the 30% review, it was, determined that we should investigate the possibility of using underground ,detention and/or trench drains, as a means of reducing flooding in the Cedar Breaks area., A preliminary analysis using NCTCOG contours indicates that the HOA lot on Starwood Drive has adequate elevation to accommodate underground detention. Additionally, a preliminary estimate from Contech was $100,000 for the installation of their Storm Trap system. However, detailed survey and SUE are required to conduct a full design. The initial survey and SUE only extended to the outlet of the concrete flume. It is assumed that the ground water will be below the detention, and this is supported by geotechnical testing in the area that indicated no groundwater to a depth of ten feet., An additional option is to route the storm water to the existing storm system in Basswood Boulevard by installing an Inlet at the top of the concrete flume and tying It to the, back of the inearest inlet on Basswood. Finally, instead of extending the existing Cedar Breaks storm drain, trench drains may be installed to route the water with minimal impact to existing utilities and roadway pavement., Due to the change in scope, MULTATECH is requesting an amendment to our current contract to cover the additional expense of survey, SUE, and geotechnical testing for the proposed detention area, the existing', concrete flume, and the adjacent streets (Basswood Boulevard and Starwood Drive) to determine if the runoff can be routed to underground detention using Contech or ADS detention systems or if'the water can be routed to the Basswood storm drain system. These options will be taken to the 30% design level. If it is determined that Contech or ADS systems are feasible for installation under the H:OA lot on Starwood Drive, it is anticipated that the remaining design work can be completed within the remaining budget of the original contract. This wound be due to reducing the project area and eliminating the utility conflicts. Contech or ADS would design their product for the site at no additional cost to the City. If either the Basswood storm drain or Cedar Breaks, trench drain system is selected, additional engineering design services will be required as listed belolw. 0 I A M U L.TATE, U; H Mi ARCHITECTS*EN131NEERS 2821 West 7'th Street,Belts 400, Fort Worth.Texas 76107-2219 'gore 817•M-5571.Rix:8 7.877-4245 vr mrmult t ch,co m E Summary of Total Project lee: r Total MW BE Percent 1.Or'ginal Contract $78,27 $20., 35 26.5% 2.Amendment eotechnical Svcs $2465 $2,465 100.0% SUE&Survey Svcs $7,100 $7,100 1 '0.
