Two cities were at that time operating under the program and the Justice Department planned to extend the program to sixteen additional cities Through contacts made during the production of the Gang Task Force Report the Citizens Crime Commission, in conjunction with Marvin Collins, U. S Attorney for the Northern Texas District, was able to secure a visit from two representatives of the Justice Department The visitation was made in January 1992 and Fort Worth was qualified to submit an application for a Weed and Seed grant. The target area for this project is a combination of the Near Southeast, Stop Six, and Polytechnic areas. The boundaries are the Union Pacific Railroad on the north, Berry St. on the south, Interstate 35 on the west, and Loop 820 on the west The target area is approximately 15 square miles in area. The grant period for Phase I is April 1, 1992 through December 31, 1992, with all costs retroactive to the starting point.
