Pre-Council Minutes

Select Committee Report on Streets and Storm Drains
(Presented committee.)
The committee presented a proposal identifying suggested
policy changes for street and storm drain maintenance and
construction. The committee suggested that following
policies:
No expenditures for the maintenance of "poor" streets.
Increase expenditures to construct new streets and
maintain "fair" to "good" streets.
Use only concrete for new and reconstructed streets.
Finance reconstruction of streets from general budget
vs. bonds.
Policy for new development -increase private share of
cost for street development.
Projected goal -To have 70% of streets in "good" to
"fair" condition (presently only 30% in "good" to "fair"
condition) by the Year 2000.
-Projected annual cost of proposed policies for the City
$60 million (present cost $25 million).
REFERRED TO:
The report on storm drains has been delayed due to an inability
to locate needed maps.
With regard to the City's proposed 14% expense share, he would
like to see mor.e extensive figures that would put Fort Worth
in a competitive position with other cities.
Would like to know if staff has taken in consideration the
effects this proposed policy change will have on the inner
City property owners? Would like to see data identifying
the possible effects of concrete only use?
Would like to know what the overall policy is with regard
to street maintenance? What can the City do in a year's
time in terms of dollars?
