there were 647 authorized Police Officer positions. Also, the department had

The Fort Worth Housing Authority has applied and received from the Department
of Housin and Urban Develo ment funding for a grant entitled Neighbors
Against Drugs NAD This program was developed to help eliminate drug•-
related crime in public housing, specifically targeting the Butler
Place/Addition. The program will require a cooperative effort from the Fori:
Worth Police Department, local social service and community agencies, the Fori:
Worth Housing Authority and residents of the Butler Place/Addition to provide
alternatives to drugs and drug related crime. Primarily, the program will
encompass a three phased approach which includes:
Police: A uniformed Police Officer, with flexible hours stationed at Butler
to establish a "community policing" patrol.
Prevention: Fort Worth Housing Authority personnel to interface with
community/social service agencies to institute training and self esteem
modules in an effort to reduce drug-related crime.
Intervention: Fort Worth Housing Authority personnel to counsel and focus on
youth at the middle school level and above.
In .order to provide the Police Officer to the Butler Place/Addition it is
necessary that the Police Department''s authorized strength be increased.
