HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance 18842-09-2009Ordinance No.18842-09-2009 AN ORDINANCE INCREASING ESTIMATED RECEIPTS AND APPROPRIATIONS IN THE GRANTS FUND IN THE AMOUNT OF $60,024.23, SUBJECT TO RECEIPT OF A GRANT FROM THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE. FOR FUNDING THE BU[_LETPROOF VEST PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM; PROVIDING FOR A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; MAKING THIS ORDINANCE CUMULATIVE OF PRIOR ORDINANCES; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That in addition to those amounts allocated to the various City departments for Fiscal Year 2009-2010, there shall also be increased appropriations in the Grants Fund in the amount of $60,024.23, upon receipt of a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, for funding the Bulletproof Vest Partnership Program. SECTION 2. That should any portion, section or part of a section of this ordinance be declared invalid, inoperative or void for any reason by a court of competent jurisdiction, such decision, opinion or judgment shall in no way impair the remaining portions, sections, or parts of sections of this ordinance, which said remaining provisions shall be and remain in full force and effect. SECTION 3. That this ordinance shall be cumulative of Ordinance No. 18809 and all other ordinances and appropriations amending the same except in those instances where the provisions of this ordinance are in direct conflict with such other ordinances and appropriations, in which instance said conflicting provisions of said prior ordinances and appropriations are hereby expressly repealed. SECTION 4. This ordinance shall take effect upon adoption. Ratify the application for and accept a grant award from the United States Department of Justice Bulletproof Vest Partnership Program in the amount of $60,024.23; and 2. Adopt the attached appropriation ordinance increasing estimated receipts and appropriations in the Grants Fund by $60,024.23 upon receipt of the funds. DISCUSSION: __ The Bulletproof Vest Partnership (BVP} Program, created by the Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant Act of of 1998, is a unique initiative that the United States Department of Justice (DOJ}designed to assist state and local law enforcement agencies in purchasing bulletproof vests for law enforcement officers. The BVP Program awards funding based on the amount of available funds for the year, the size of the applicant unit of government and the number of requests received. Only bullet-resistant vests certified by the National Institute of Justice are eligible for reimbursement under this program. The BVP Program is designed to pay up to 50 percent of the total cost of each vest included in the jurisdiction's application.
