BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS; SECTION L That the name of Cromwell Street from its intersections with East Lueda Street to East Vickery Boulevard and located adjacent to Blocks 1 ~ and 16 of the Glenwood Addition, an addition to the City of Fort Worth, Texas; as more specifically described in Exhibit "f1" attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference, be and the same is hereby changed to "Sims Legacy Lane". SECTION 2. That this ordinance shall be cumulative of all other ordinances affecting the names of streets in the cite of Fort Worth except insofar as it may be in conflict ~°ith the provisions of those ordinances, in which instance thev are expressly repealed. No. fi8850-09-2009 DATE: Tuesday, September 29, 2009 REFERENCE NO.: PZ-2850 LOG NAME: 06SIMS LEGACY SN-009-006 SUBJECT: Adopt An Ordinance Changing the Name of Cromwell Street to Sims Legacy Lane between East Leuda Street and East Vickery Boulevard RECOMMENDATION: _ _ _ ___ It is recommended that the City Council adopt an ordinance changing the name of Cromwell Street to Sims Legacy Lane, located adjacent to Block 14 and Block 16 of the Glenwood Addition, from East Leuda Street to East Vickery Boulevard. DISCUSSION: Vernell Sturns, on behalf of the Community Christian Church, has requested a street name change for a portion of Cromwell Street between East Vickery Boulevard and East Leuda Street. The Community Christian Church owns aA of the property adjacent to the area. The name change will honor Paul A. Sims, a deceased pastor and community leader. A map exhibit of the area is attached as Exhibit A. A biographical sketch of Mr. Sims is attached as Exhibit B. The Fire Department supports the street name change request. The applicant will pay for the manufacture and installation of the new street name signs. Pursuant to Texas state law, a public hearing must precede the ordinance adapting the proposed change. Notice of the required public hearing was mailed to the property owners on September 11, 2009. The proposed street name change lies within COUNCIL DISTRICT 8. Sirns, Deputy Director and Director of Programs of the greater Fort Worth and Tarrant County Community Action Agency since November 15, 1966, was formerly the Executive Secretary of the Texas Christian l~rtissionary Fellowship and Director of Negro work far the Texas Association of Christian Churches {TACC), where he served from Juty 1, 1956. His services at the TACO as a staff member included personnel placement of ministers, supervising leadership programs, and guiding mission churches; and he also supervised the development of district and state organizations for the TACO. He served as Pastor of churches in Fort North and Dallas, Texas; and Topeka, Atchison and Kansas City, Kansas. He earned a $.A. Degree from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas, and completed most of the work for the B. D. Degree at Brite Divinity School, a graduate seminary of Texas Christian University (TCUj in Fort Worth, Texas. Rev. Sims traveled extensively in Europe and all across the United States.
