The Special Operations Division of the Fort Worth Police Department is
fighting an ever increasing battle with the drug dealers in our area. These
dealers, with their vast profits from illegal drug sales, are now using
special equipment to spy on the Police Department.
We have learned through bulletins from other police departments that this is
a nationwide problem.
This equipment used by drug dealers is readily available and easy to install.
It can be used to monitor conversations in vehicles, offices or any other
place where our officers gather to plan their activities. At this time the
Police Department does not have equipment to check for these hidden
transmitters and none is available for the Police Department to borrow.
The equipment to be purchased is portable and comes in an aluminum case that
looks like a camera case. The handheld receiver has several antennas and
special adaptors used to search rooms, desk, furniture, walls or persons.
When a hidden transmitter is found not only do you get a signal strength
reading on the search equipment, but also a digital readout of the frequency
that the transmitter is using. This equipment can locate any type of
transmitter that produces a radio signal no matter how small or how low the
power output of the hidden device.
