As a follow-up to the Informal Report No. 7263, March 1, 1988, requesting an
additional $35,000 supplement to current year funding of the Air Pollution
Control Program, staff is proposing the following
1) Recruit an Air Pollution Control Specialist to coordinate with
Environmental Protection Agency/Texas Air Control Board (EPA/TACB) the
development of a county-wide comprehensive air pollution control planning
document,
2) Contract with a local university to evaluate the current computer modeling
program for Air Pollution,
3) Evaluate other state Air Quality Control Programs, and
4) Evaluate alternative control measures which are positive from an industrial
point of view while being effective on emission reduction.
The enhancement of the Air Control Program will allow staff to work closer with
EPA, TACB and the surrounding areas in obtaining information which will enable
the region to obtain the ozone 'standard while expanding the economic base for
the City.
Staff has estimated it will cost $27,024 to provide this information within FY
87-88. Additional fundings will be requested from EPA to enchance the program
for FY 88-89.
