PAIGE 10/2/72 G-2072 Code - Extended Use of Plastic 1
I Pipe of
On June 19, 1972, the City Council adopted Ordinance No. 6684 incorporating
various revisions into the Plumbing Code, including provisions for the use
of bituminized fiber and plastic pipe for house sewers.
This ordinance specified that all underground drainage systems of nonmetallic
piping must be encased in reinforced concrete. The Department of Housing
and Urban Development has advised the staff that this requirement must be
modified slightly to permit recertification of the Workable Program. There-
fore, it is proposed that the Code be amended to require encasing plastic
pipe in concrete only when such pipe is under a floor slab no deeper than
six feet.
Recommendation
It is recommended that an ordinance be adopted revising the Plumbing Code to
require that plastic pipe be encased in concrete only when the pipe is under
a floor slab no deeper than six feet.
