BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS SECT ION 1 . "There is hereby created a Zoning Commission of the City to be composed of nine (9) qualified electors of the City. It is the declared policy that the City Council will consider for appointment to the Commission as members only those persons who have demonstrated their civic interest, general knowledge of the community, intelligent judgment, understanding of zoning and planning and availability to prepare for and attend meetings and who, by reason of diversity of their individual occupations, constitute a commission which is broadly representative of the com- munity." This section also authorizes the City Council to appoint one qualified elector as an alternate member who shall sit as a member of the Zoning Commission in the absence of one or more of the regular members. Proposal It is proposed that the City Council amend Section 25-71 to eliminate the position of alternate member on the Zoning Commission. Section 25-71 of the City Code provides that the Council will consider for appointment to the Commission only those persons who have demonstrated civic inter- est and an availability to prepare for and attend meetings. Therefore, it is my opinion that by appointing members to the Zoning Commission who meet these qualifications, there is no need to appoint an alternate member. Legality The Department of Law has researched this matter, and there are no known legal impediments. Fiscal Notes None. City Manager's Comment ''The City Manager has no objections to this proposal.
