HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance 5815ORDINANCE NO. .~ d ~~ AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 2-54 AND 2-55 OF CHAPTER 2 OF THE FORT WORTH CITY CODE (1964) BY PROVIDING THAT THE COMMISSION ON COMMUNITY RE- LATIONS CREATED UNDER ARTICLE VII OF SAID CHAPTER SHALL HEREAFTER BE COMPOSED OF TWENTY (20) MEMBERS AND DESIGNATING THEIR TERM5 OF OFFICE; PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTHa TEXAS: SECTION 1. That Sections 2-54 and 2-55 of Chapter 2, Article VII, of the Fort Worth City Code (1964) be amended and after be- ing so amended, the same shall read as follows: Sec. 2-54. Commission Created. There is hereby created a Commission on Community Relations to be composed of twenty (ZO) members appointed by the City Council. Each member of the Commission shall be a resident of the City of Fort Worth. As~nearly as is reason- ably possible, the membership shall be fairly representative of all of the several economic, religious, cultural, ethnic and racial groups which comprise the population of the City of Fort Worth. The members of the Fort Worth Community Relations Commission shall serve without compen- sation. Sec. 2-55. Term. Each member of the Commission shall be appointed to serve a term of three (3} years, or until his successor is appointed and qualified; provided, however, that on the initial Commission six (6) members shall be appointed for a term of one (1) year; seven (7) members shall be appointed for a term of two (2) years; and seven (7) members shall be appointed for a term of three (3) years. Each year thereafter, the City Council shall ap- point members to fill expiring terms, each of such appointments to be for a term of three (3) years. In the event any member of the Commission resigns or terminates his service for any cause, the City Council shall appoint a qualified successor to fill such unexpired term. SECTION 2. That if any section, part of a section or provision of any section of this ordinance shall be held to be void, in- effective or unconstitutional by a court of competent juris- diction, the holding of such section, part of a section or provision of any section to be void, ineffective or uncon- stitutional for any cause whatsoever shall in no way affect the validity of the remaining sections and provisions of this ordinance, which shall remain in full force and effect, The City Council would not have passed any sections, parts of sections or provisions of any section of this ordinance that were unconstitutional, void or ineffective it it had known that they were unconstitutional, void or ineffective at the time of adopting this ordinance. SECTION 3. That this ordinance shall repeal every prior ordinance and provision of the Fort Worth City Code in conflict here- with, but only insofar as the portion of such prior ordinance or provision shall be in conflict, and as to all other ordi- nances or provisions of the Fort Worth City Code not in con- flict herewith, this ordinance shall be and is hereby made cumulative. SECTION 4. That this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after the date of its passage, and it is so ordained. APPROVED AS TO FORM AND LEGALITY: ~---~ ` City Attorney
