R SUBJECT Ordinance Correcting Errors in PAGE
~ E
U .Single-Member District Boundary Descrip ions 1
1/18/83 ---~
--! -C- 5520 (Amendment to Ordinance No. 7323, as ~' °t
-- en e y r Hance o.
__
- bn~November 16, 2482, the City Council unanimously adopted Ordinance No. 8682,
which reapportioned and redefined the boundaries of each of the City's eight
single member districts. Following the adoption of Ordinance No. 8682 and the
submission of the revised single member district plan to the Justice Department
for its review, 'errors were discovered in the metes and bounds descriptions of
each of the City's ei8ht single member districts. Included in these errors is
a void annexat~tsn o~ the 237 acre tract out of the A.F. Albright Survey, which
was a pas~t~+~istrict 7, and which presently has no population. Among other
eXrq~~, there is an overlapping boundary between Single-Member Districts S and
~'~'`~and a failure to close Single-Member District 3. Finally, there are a
nuiaber of other corrections which are necessary in each of the eight Single-
Member Jistri4t5 which will clarify their boundaries.
It is necessary that the City Council adopt an ordinance correcting these errors
in the metes and bounds descriptions and submit it to the Justice Department
pursuant to Section S of the Voting Rights Act.
Ttte proposed ordinance would be as amendment to Ordinance No. 7323, as previously
amended by Ordinance No. 8682. It is anticipated that these corrections will have
no impact on the .Justice Department's review of the City's pending submission
since the corrections will not ch,3nge .the population figures for any of the
eight single memb~s:districts. Likewise, the only change on the City's new
single memb~x district map will be the alteration of the boundary of District
7 to t~-+e~lect deletion of the void annexation.
`'~`~,etommendation
It iS recommended that the City Council adopt an ordinance correcting
the errors ire the metes and bounds descriptions for each of the City's eight
single member districts.
