Background
The Park and Recreation Department has identified two parcels. of property
which no longer function as useful recreation or public open space.. It is
believed that the community's recreational needs could be better served by
selling these surplus lands and using the proceeds to improve existing parks
or constructing replacement facilities. Secondary benefits include getting
unneeded public lands back to private use and eliminating the City's main-
tenance responsibility
State law provides that the sale of surplus park. land requires. voter approval
in a general election
~. I `
The Two Park. Parcels Proposed for Sale
The two parcels. proposed .for s.a:le are as. .follows..
1 ThP Public Square of. the Community o.f Ederville. This. parcel o.f land is
genera.l].y 200 feet by 200 feet, exclusive of adjoining streets presently
known as Elder Avenues Isham, Nottingham and Milam Streets, and. formerly
known as Eder Avenue, First Streets Main Street and Hattie Street, as
reflected in Volume 388, Page 38, Plat Records, Tarrant County, Texas
The exchange of this parcel of land for other land in the general area
more appropriately situated to better serve the recreation and public
open space needs of th.e neighborhood will b~e pursued If the disposition
o.f this property results in a sale, the proceeds will be used to acquire
land in the general area more appropriately situated to better serve the
recreation and public open space needs of the neighborhood
2. A. .32 acre parcel of land outside of tYi.e levee west of Trinity Park
This parcel of land was cut off from Trinity Park many years ago by the
construction of the levee and by the St. Louis and. Southwestern Railroad.
The parcel is located approximately 300 feet east of Foch.Stxeet and 400
feet south of West Lancaster Avenue b.ut not situated adjacent to a public
street Proceeds .from the sale of this par.ce.l will be used for contin-
gency funding for the Park and Recreation Capital Improvement Program
I:f approved by the City Council and voters, the surplus lands listed above
will be sold using competitive bidding under standard City policy and Charter.
