HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance 8839~ ~` •5 e.Ry, ORDINANCE NO . 8 U/~ _.-. a, .. • ~, ~ a AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CERTAIN POLICE DEPARTMENT POSITION PROVISIONS OF ORDINANCE NO. 8691, AS AMENDED BY ORDI- NANCE 8779, BY INCREASING THE NUMBER OF OFFICER POSITIONS; MAKING THIS ORDINANCE CUMULATIVE OF ALL PRIOR ORDINANCES; PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; AND NAMING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS: CF/''rPT(1TT l That the positions provided for the Police Department for fis- cal year 1982-83 in Ordinance No. 8691, as amended by Ordinance No. 8779 and in the Budget of the City Manager, be amended only with regard to Officer positions, to provide for Five Hundred Twenty- Three (523) rather than the Five Hundred Sixteen (516) Officer posi- tions, such new positions to be funded until September, 1983, with grant moneys which have been received from the State of Texas Department of Highways and Public Transportation. CL~nTTl1TT 7 That all of the declarations and findings contained in the pre- amble of this ordinance are made a part hereof and shall be fully effective as part of the ordained subject matter of this ordinance. eu nmtnrT ~ That, if any section, part of a section or provision of any section of this ordinance shall be held to be void, ineffective or unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, the holding of such section, part of a section or provision of any section to be void, ineff ectiv e or unconstitutional for any cause whatsoever shall in no way affect the validity of the remaining sections and provi- sions of the ordinance, which shall remain in full force and effect. ~r =~.~s s ,. ~~ .,. SECTION 4. That this ordinance shall become effective and be in full force and effect from and after the date of its passage as provided by law, and it is so ordained. Pro ram STEP Grant ) or_.1.__ 6/x//83 **G-5646 g ( ) SOLI E ADMINISTRATION~2 On December 2, 1982 (M&C G-5488), the City Council approved the application for and acceptance of a Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) grant from .. the State Department of Highways and Public Transportation for the Police M•• Traffic Division, The STEP grant has been received It provides funds for the salaries and limited fringe benefits of seven additional police officer positions for the first phase of the grant, which will be for the period May 24, 1983 through .~ September 30, 1983 Subsequent phases will extend the program to a one-year period This grant will enable increased enforcement of traffic laws for hazardous moving violations at selected sites throughout the City. It is believed that increased enforcement will reduce personal injury and fatal accidents at these sites Recommendation -- ~ -~~ It is recommended that the City Council adopt the attached ordinance increasing the number of police officer positions in the Police Department by seven from five hundred sixteen to five hundred twenty-three.
