OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER Communication to Mayor and Council No. TEI— 5 March 24, 1961 OFREC RO CITY SECRETA?y FT. WORTH, T X. Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council Re: Amending Traffic Ordinance City of Fort Worth Regarding U-Turns Mrs. McKnight and Gentlemen: The present traffic ordinance prohibits vehicles from making a U-turn to proceed in the opposite direction at an intersection controlled by signal lights At certain intersections on thoroughfares with a wide median strip, and a left turn phase on the signal installation, it is possible for vehi- cles to make a U-turn on the left turn phase without conflicting wish other traffic. There are several of these intersections now in existence and in the future there will be others. An ordinance has been prepared, amending the present ordinance, which -will permit U-turns at signalized intersections where the Traffic Engineering Department has erected signs permitting this turn. If the amendment is adopted, the Traffic Engineering Department will study each intersection individually, and if the turning radii permit and there is no conflict of traffic, signs will be erected to permit U-turns. It is recommended that the amended ordinance be adopted. Respectfully submitted, LPC:ihngham ?City-Manager CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS TIM SUBJECT MATTER OF THIS M.&C.C.
