Kayser Deputy City Attorney, Gerald Pruitt Deputy City Attorney, Peter Vaky Assistant City Manager, Susan Alanis Assistant City Manager, Fernando Costa Assistant City Manager, Jay Chapa Assistant City Manager, Valerie Washington 1) Call to Order With a quorum of the City Council Members present, Mayor Price called the special called meeting of the Fort Worth City Council to order at 3:05 p.m. on Tuesday, August 30, 2016, in the Pre Council Chamber of the Fort Worth City Hall, 1000 Throckmorton Street, Fort Worth, Texas. 2) Training on Fair Housing Act and Americans with Disabilities Act Chris Mosley with the City Attorney's Office reminded the Council that this training was a result of a settlement with the Federal Government related to Ebby's Place. The settlement requires one time training for the council on the Fair Housing Act. Mr. Mosely introduced Kim Savage with the Law Office of Kim Savage to conduct the training. Ms. Savage reviewed the Federal Fair Housing Act provisions related to the prohibition of discrimination in housing. She reviewed the consent decree's nondiscrimination provisions related to persons with disabilities. She reviewed the intent of the Federal CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS SPECIAL CALLED MEETING AUGUST 30, 2016 Page 2 of 2 Fair Housing Amendments Act of 1988 and The American's with Disabilities Act(ADA) —Title II, including the protected uses and reasonable accommodation. She went through a five step reasonable accommodation analysis and provided examples of reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilites. She discussed the land use and planning decision making process and what constitutes discriminatory conduct under the fair Housing Act. She discussed physical accessibility under both the Fair Housing Act and ADA Title II. Ms. Savage provided time for questions. 3) Adjourn There being no further business, Mayor Price adjourned the meeting at 4:04 p.m. on Tuesday, August 30, 2016. Attest: Approved- Mary J.
