Douglas Rademaker,Director, DOE and Mike Groomer, Assistant City Manager FROM: Dena Johnson, DOE DATE: January 29, 2001 RE: AMENDMENT NO. 3 TO WATER MAIN REHABILITATION CONTRACT II DOE NO. 2755, WATER PROJECT NO. PW77-060770140500 This amendment will compensate Dunaway Associates, Inc. for the additional civil design, struc- tural design and survey services to be provided on the contract to address the following: The original design provided for the installation of a 20 inch water transmission main underneath the west fork of the Trinity River on the west side of the University Street bridge between Rock- wood Park Drive and River Park. Subsequent to commencing with construction, it was determined that the water main could not be constructed (despite numerous attempts by the contractor) as designed because the extreme hard- ness of a layer of solid rock which was encountered along the southern alignment of the proposed main prevented sheet piling (which would have allowed for installation underneath the river) from being driven into the river bottom. The existence of the solid layer of rock was unknown prior to beginning construction of the project. After reviewing several alternatives, it was decided that the water main should be suspended along the northbound bridge structure of University Street. Dunaway Associates, Inc. will provide plans and specifications for the new alignment. Dunaway Associates, Inc., has submitted a proposal letter in the amount of$11,830.00 for the ad- ditional services to be provided thereby increasing the contract fee from $96,569.94 to $108,399.94. I believe this fee is fair and reasonable for the additional services to be provided.
