DISCUSSION: On April 27, 1999 (M&C C-17392), the City Council authorized the City Manager to execute a Federal Innovative Project Agreement with TxDOT for the extension of Meacham Boulevard from Gold Spike Drive to North Main Street. The extension of Meacham Boulevard includes a new bridge over the Union Pacific Railroad, Burlington Northern Sante Fe Railroad, and North Main Street with a new intersection on the west side of North Main Street adjacent to Meacham International Airport. This project will also include intersection improvements at the Meacham Boulevard and Blue Mound Road (FM156) intersection. Currently, the travel lanes on Meacham Boulevard are skewed through the intersection. The intersection improvements will widen Meacham Boulevard approximately 640 feet to the east in order for the travel lanes to align through the intersection. Supplemental Agreement No. 1 will increase the federal funds payable under the agreement from $2,000,000 to $3,000,000. The total project construction cost is estimated at $4,135,530. The City's share of the construction cost is estimated to be $1,135,530. The funds for the City's share have been approved in the 1998 Capital Improvement Program. This project was advertised for public hearing by TxDOT on December 24, 2000, and January 14, 2001 in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, and on December 26, 2000, and January 16, 2001 in the Commercial Recorder. TxDOT will advertise the project for construction on February 13, 2001. TxDOT anticipates the contractor to begin construction in mid-March. The bridge construction has an approximate 10- month completion schedule. This project is located in COUNCIL DISTRICT 2.
