NEEL MCDONALD, SHARON NEWMAN-STANFIELD, JO ANN REYES, JAMES D. RODGERS, NANCY E. STRICKLAND, AND STEVEN C. WILLIAMSON AS MUNICIPAL JUDGES FOR A TWO YEAR HRM COMMENCING APRIL 1, 2008 AND ENDING MARCH 31, 2010 OR UNTIL A SUCCESSOR IS QUALIFIED AND APPOINTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH STATE LAW; DESIGNATING NINFA L. MARES AS CHIEF JUDGE AND ,STEVEN C. WILLIAMSON AS DEPUTY . CHIEF JUDGE; PROVIDING THAT THIS ORDINANCE SHALL BE CUMULATIVE; PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; ANII) PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That Stephanie J. Beamer, Andrew T. Bradshaw, Simon C. Gonzalez, Terry D. Lewis, Ninfa L. Mares, Robert Neel McDonald, Sharon Newman-Stanfield, Jo Ann Reyes, James D. Rodgers, Nancy E. Strickland, and Steven C. Williamson be appointed as Municipal Judges for a two year term commencing April 1, 2008 and ending March 31, 2010, or until a successor is qualified and appointed in accordance with state law. SECTION 2. That Ninfa L. Mares be designated as Chief Judge and that Steven C. Williamson be designated as Deputy Chief Judge. SECTION 3. This ordinance shall be cumulative of all provisions of ordinances and of the Code of the City of Fort Worth, Texas (1986), as amended, except where provisions of this ordinance are in direct conflict with the provisions of such ordinances and Code, in which event such conflicting provisions of such ordinances and Code are hereby repealed. SECTION 4. It is hereby declared to be the intention of the City Council that the sections, paragraphs, sentences, clauses and phrases of this ordinance are severable, and, if any phrase, clause, sentence, paragraph or section of this ordinance shall be declared void, ineffective or unconstitutional by the valid judgment or fmal decree of a court of competent jurisdiction, such ineffectiveness or unconstitutionality shall not affect any of the remaining phrases, clauses, sentences, paragraphs and sections of this ordinance, since the same would have been enacted by the City Council without the incorporation herein of any such void, ineffective or unconstitutional phrase, clause, sentence, paragraph or section. Beamer, Andrew T. Bradshaw, Simon C. Gonzalez, Terry D. Lewis, R. Neel McDonald, Ninfa L. Mares, Sharon Newman-Stanfield, Jo Ann Reyes, James D. Rodgers, Nancy E. Strickland, and Steven C. Williamson as Municipal Judges for atwo-year term commencing April 1, 2008, and ending March 31, 2010, or until a successor is qualified and appointed in accordance with state law, and designating Ninfa L. Mares as Chief Judge and Steven C. Williamson as Deputy Chief Judge. DISCUSSION: Chapter 30, Section 30.00006(b) of the Government Code under the Uniform Municipal Court Act requires the governing body of a municipality to appoint its Municipal Judges by ordinance. Adoption of the attached ordinance would reappoint the current sitting Judges Stephanie J. Beamer, Andrew T. Bradshaw, Simon C. Gonzalez, Terry D. Lewis, R. Neel McDonald, Ninfa L. Mares, Sharon Newman-Stanfield, Jo Ann Reyes, James D. Rodgers, Nancy E. Strickland, and Steven C. Williamson pursuant to Section 30.00006(b) of the Government Code, and designate the Chief Judge and Deputy Chief Judge pursuant to Section 30.00007 of the Government Code. On April 30, 2008, the Ad Hoc Municipal Court Advisory Committee voted to recommend to the City Council the above listed persons for appointment as Municipal Judges. Chief Judge and Deputy Chief Judge for a two-year term commencing April 1, 2008, and ending March 31, 2010.
