ORDINANCE NO ~ ~~ ~ /
AN ORDINANCE SPECIFYING THE AUTHORIZED POSITIONS IN THE
POLICE DEPARTMENT AND CREATING NEW POSITIONS IN THE POLICE
DEPARTMENT PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE AND NAMING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, the Police Chief has requested the City Council to
specify and authorize the number of positions in the Police
Department for the 1982-1983 Fiscal Year (including the creation of
5 additional Officers, 11 additional Corporal/Detectives and 1 addi-
tional Sergeant, effective April 1, 1983) and
WHEREAS, the specification and authorization of these positions
is a necessity NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH,
TEXAS
SECT ION 1
That the following positions, of which 5 Officers, 11 Corporal/
Detectives, and 1 Sergeant shall not be effective until April 1,
1983, are the only positions authorized in the City of Fort Worth
Police Department for the Fiscal year 1982-1983
505 Officers
151 Corporals/Detectives
87 Sergeants
35 Lieutenants
11 Captains
4 Deputy Chiefs
793 TOTAL
SECTION 2
That all of the declarations and findings contained in the pre-
amble of this ordinance are made a part hereof and shall be fully
effective as part of the ordained subject matter of this ordinance
SECTION 3
That if any section, part of a section or provision of any
section of this ordinance shall be held to be void, ineffective or
unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, the holding
of such section, part of a section or provision of any section to be
void, ineffective or unconstitutional for any cause whatsoever shall
in no way affect the validity of the remaining sections and provi-
sions of the ordinance, which shall remain in full force and effect

SECTION 4
That this ordinance shall become effective and be in full force
and effect from and after the date of its passage as provided by
law, and it is so ordained

Background
According to Art 1269m of the Revised Civil Statutes of Texas the City Council
is requested to establish Civi l Service staffing in the Police and Fire Departments
by ordinance
Civil Service staffing in the Police and Fire Departments for the 1982-83 fiscal
year as authorized by the City Council with the adoption of the 1982-83 Annual
Budget is as follows
