Senate Bill Number 189 has the same basic residency requirements as House Bill Number 475. Senator Ogg has introduced Senate Bill Number 367 also making it illegal for any city or town to impose a residence requirement as a condition of employment. In addition, this bill prohibits hiring any job applicants who reside beyond 100 miles from the city's boundary. Different cities may have different specific local problems regarding residence requirements for city employees and because of this, each City Council should have the flexibility to adopt appropriate ordinances best suited to deal with the problem on a local basis. Such local options would be prohibited by these bills. Legality No legal issues are involved. Fiscal Note Adoption of this resolution will not have a direct bearing on revenues or expenditures.
