4/3/79 CP-51 ZONING ORDINANCE TASK FORCE
PROPOSAL PROPOSED BY: Councilwoman WM NA MR'SEVI W
Shirley Johnson
Background
My communications with citizens regarding our Zoning Ordinance indicate to me that
the City should evaluate the effectiveness of the current ordinance in preserving
our neighborhood areas. A review of the ordinance should be made to determine what
measures might be necessary and feasible to enhance the City's ability to prevent
encroachments into neighborhoods which are not supportive of the redevelopment and
renewal of resurging areas of the City. In recognition of the City Council's com-
mitment to support the inner city and neighborhood areas, I submit this proposal.
Recommendation
I propose that an 'ad hoc' Zoning Ordinance Task Force be established to review
current ordinances bearing on this problem and make recommendations concerning any
changes which may be need o resgrve fid,,u, ,ra the nei orh ods of this City.
I recommend the task fort be ose f tielaand'citizen rep-
Opp resentatives at a minimum:
1. A Building Inspection Official.
2. The City Attorney, or one of his Assistants.
3. A person or persons of the Planning Department involved in the Zoning pro-
cess and who would act as liaison to the Zoning Board of Adjustment, Zoning
Commission and the City Plan Commission.
4. A person from the Northside/Stockyards Program familiar with historical
preservations needs.
5. A member of the Conference of Sectors designated by the organization to
serve on the committee.
Upon completion of this report, the task force will submit its' recommendations
to the City Council. Depending on the recommendations submitted, the City Council
will then determine what further review and actions are appropriate.
