Numerous comments were obtained at the public hearing and at a subse- quent PTAC meeting on increasing the fares charged for public transportation in the Fort Worth Urbanized Area. The current and proposed fares, which were presented at the public hearing, are summarized below: Type of Fare Current Proposed Regular, Adult Cash Fare- 40C 50C Prepurchased tokens- 37-1/2(,% 45(,% )0-1 Monthly pass: Regular - $15,00 $20.00 Employer Discount Program- $10.00 $15.00 Elderly/Handicapped- N/A $10.00 Regular, Elderly/Handicapped Fare- 20C 25(,% Regular, Child/Student Fare 20C 25C Express, Adult Cash Fare- 75C 75C Express Monthly Pass: LEGALITY FISCAL NOTE Q CITY MANAGER'S COMMENTS _ r PAGE_OF POLICY PROPOSAL (cont'd) ' Regular- $15.00 $25.00 Employer Discount Program- N/A $20.00 The new fares, if approved by Council, could become effective on Thursday, May 1, 1980. A net savings of approximately $90,000 in City cash contribution is esti- mated for the remainder of fiscal year 1979-80 if the fare increase is implemented on May 1st. If the new fares are implemented on or before October 1, 1980, and the existing service level is maintained, a net savings of some $300,000 in City cash contributions could be realized for fiscal year 1980-81. After considerable discussion and debate, the Fort Worth Public Transportation Advisory Committee at their regular meeting on Thursday, April 10, 1980, recommended increasing the fares effective on May 1, 1980. Considerable discussion by the Com- mittee was held prior to formulating the recommendation regarding the potential impact of a fare increase, at this time, on the outcome of the election for the proposed Lone Star Transportation Authority. It is proposed that the new fare structure, as recommended by the Public Trans- portation Advisory Committee, be delayed until the future role of the Lone Star Transportation Authority is determined by the citizens at the August 9th referendum. In addition, it is recommended that the Fort Worth City Council strongly encourage the Western Sub-Regional Board, of the Lone Star Transportation Authority, to make every effort to hold the line on CITRAN Fares to encourage further ridership increases and more utilization of public transit in the Urbanized Area. _City Manager's Comment t APPROVED BY City Manager concurs with this proposal.
