Mayor Woodie Woods I )
Fort Worth/Tarrant County has been selected by the National Assembly of National
Voluntary Health and Social Welfare Organizations as one of three locations in
the nation to receive technical assistance for a collaboration program for youth
serving agencies. The National Assembly is made up of traditional youth serving
agencies such as the National Council YMCA, National Board YWCA, Boy Scouts of
America, Girl Scouts of the USA, etc. The National Assembly has sponsored colla-
boration programs in Spokane, Washington; Oakland, California; the State of
Connecticut; and Tuscon, Arizona. In each of these programs, the purpose was to
coordinate existing resources to provide for the needs of a particular youth group.
Here in Tarrant County, the target group selected is "school age youth out of school."
The Tarrant County Youth Collaboration Planning Committee and a Task Force from the
Junior League have been working to develop a collaboration among youth serving
agencies in Tarrant County. A Youth Collaboration Conference is being planned for
November 19, 1980. The objectives of the Conference are as follows:
1. To provide .invited agencies with enough information to obtain a
broad commitment to participate in the Tarrant County Youth
Collaboration;
2. To present and define from a multi-agency perspective the initial
focus area of "school age youth out of school";
3. To develop a plan of action involving as many local agencies as
possible. to address the problem of "school age youth out of
school".
More than two hundred agencies from Tarrant County are being invited to attend
this conference.
