Russell Lancaster The original Fort Worth was established as a key outpost to protect the wes- tern settlement of Texas. Although its existence as a military post did not last long in history, it was the beginning of our community. Unfortunately, the original design of Fort Worth is not familiar to most Fort Worthians and visitors to our community do not learn much about the original fort. Two citizens of our community, Bill Potter and Jerry Barton, have done a great deal of research on the original fort and are proposing that there be a commu- nity effort to rebuild a replica of the original fort in a location that would be useful for educational and tourist purposes. I am excited about the idea and wish to share it with the City Council . I would like to have the City Council refer this idea to the City staff to explore possible locations and to assist me and the interested citizens in approaching foundations for possible support for this endeavor. OOW Fort Worth was the beginning of our community and it deserves the type of rebuilding that is suggested by this citizen effort. City Manager's Comments The project would be of considerable public interest . Staff will need to estimate both construction and operating costs and to determine whether pri- vate support is available. Fiscal Impact Unknown at this time.
