HomeMy WebLinkAboutCP 204 CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS I COUNCIL PROPOSAL DATE FILE NUMBER SUBJECT 9/8/98 CP Name the Community Center in Council District 5 the Eugene McCray 204 Community Center PROPOSED BY CITY MANAGER'S REVIEW Councilmembers Silcox, McCloud PAGE_1_OF_2 and Moss Proposal: It is proposed that the City Council name the new community center to be constructed in Council District 5 the Eugene McCray Community Center. Background: Mayor Pro Tem Eugene McCray passed away on May 21, 1998 after a brief illness. Mr. McCray served for seven years as Councilmember for District 5. While he served on the City Council, Mr. McCray dedicated himself to improving the quality of life for residents of District 5 through better city services, better streets, more jobs, affordable housing and a safe community. Ar. McCray was instrumental in seeing that a proposition was included in the 1998 bond issue election to provide funds to construct a new community center in District 5. In recognition of Mr. McCray's tireless service to the residents of District 5, It is appropriate for this center to be named the Eugene McCray Community Center. Legality The City Attorney has reviewed this proposal and finds that it is legal and within the authority of the City Council. Fiscal Note: This action does not involve the expenditure of City funds.
