The Fort Worth Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc has requested
that the City change the Frontage Road signs on the Poly Freeway to "Martin Luthe
King Freeway" from South iti~erside Drive (200 block of Poly Freeway) to Carey
Road ,(4800 block of Poly Freeway) Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc states as
their reason for making the request, 01Our organization has recognized the fact
that the City of Fort Worth with a population of approximately 385 000 has
not redesignated a street in honor of Dr Martin Luther King Jr The renaming
of a street in honor of Dr King by the City of Fort. Worth would be considered a
worthy acknowledgement for a man who was symbolic in his ideals for peace and
equality for all men
The Development Coordinator Special Projects Coordinator Watex° Director
Planning Director, Police Chief, Texas Highway Department the k"o~rt Worth Post-
master and private utility Companies have raised no objections to the request
Other reviewing City departments have submitted the: following
Department of Transportation/Public Works states that the only impact
of the name change will be to require the replacement of appro~cimately
115 signs at a unit Cost of $39 09 each for a total cost of approximately
$4 500, a cost usually born by the applicant
Fire Chief states that. there is a problem in the Poly Freeway designation
in that it Covers two separate numbering systems which are partially
duplicated (600-2300 from the North-South Freeway (I-35) to the Missouri-
Pacific Railroad and 100-5200 from the Missouri-Pacific Railroad to
E I-820 South) TI~.s department recommends that the organization making
the request seek to Change the Poly Freeway designation from the Missouri-
PaCific Railroad to East I-820 South, which would be helpful in eliminating
the duplicate numbering system that exists at this te~ROVED BYI
