AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CERTAIN FIRE DEPARTMENT POSITION
PROVISIONS OF ORDINANCE NO 8157 BY INCREASING THE
NUMBER OF DEPUTY CHIEFS THEREIN PROVIDED FROM THREE (3)
TO FIVE (5) AND DECREASING THE NUMBER OF DISTRICT
CHIEFS FROM EIGHTEEN (18) TO SIXTEEN (16) SUCH CHANGE
NOT AFFECTING THE APPROPRIATIONS OF SAID ORDINANCE
PROVIDING FOR A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE MAKING THIS
ORDINANCE CUMULATIVE OF PRIOR ORDINANCES AND REPEALING
ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH AND PROVIDING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH
TEXAS
SECTION 1
That the positions provided for the Fire Department for
fiscal year 1980-1981 in Ordinance No 8157 and in the Budget of
the City Manager be amended to provide for five (5) rather than
three (3) Deputy Chiefs and sixteen (16) rather than eighteen
(18) District Chiefs without however change in the overall
appropriations for said Fire Department contained in said
Ordinance and Budget
SECTION 2
Should any portion section or part of a section of this
ordinance be declared invalid, inoperative or void for any reason
by a court of competent jurisdiction such decision opinion or
judgment shall in no way impair the remaining portions sections
or parts of sections of this ordinance which said remaining pro-
visions shall be and remain in full force and effect
SECTION 3
That this ordinance shall be cumulative of Ordinance
No 8157 and all other ordinances and appropriations amending
the same except in those instances where the provisions of this
ordinance are in direct conflict with such other ordinances and
appropriations in which instances said conflicting provisions
are hereby expressly repealed
SECTION 4
That this Ordinance shall take effect and be in full force
and effect from and after the date of its passage and it is so
ordained

Purpose
The purpose of this proposal is to adopt an ordinance modifying the. senior Fire
Department staffing, thereby improving management and control of vital Fire
Department functions This proposed ~ha.nge will delete two District Fire Chief
positions and create two additional Teputy F~rae Chef positions

This proposal will change our current budgeted authorized staffing as shown
below

Dutiea and Responsibilities
These two additional Deputy Chiefs, with one current Deputy Chief, will provide
24-hour management for each of the three City-wide fire figY~ting shifts In
addition they will provide a command structure at g~ea~-er aa_arm fires manage
such areas as buildings and grounds performance evaluations and equipment
maintenance The adoption of the proposed ord~:nance ~~.ll provide an improved
management structure and allow for increased over~al:l departmental control
Financing
The net additional cost of this proposed staffing ertiange for the remainder o~'~
Fiscal Year 1981-82 is $2,650 Sufficient funds~are.available in the current
Fire Department budget to cover this additional expense
Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Council adopt an ordinance deleting the .two
currently authorized District Fire Chief positions and creating two additional
.Deputy Fire Chief positions ~~
