5 Adopt the attached appropriation ordinance increasing estimated receipts and appropriations in the
Grants Fund by $261 604 00 contingent upon receipt of funds
DISCUSSION
The City Council approved the original agreement on January 6 2009 under M&C C-23264 at a funding
level of $65 401 00 for the initial year and for four-one year renewals. The approved M&C authorized the
agreement to be renewed for up to four successive one-year periods however the M&C only
appropriated funds in the Grant Fund for FY 2009 The Safe City Commission (SCC) provides crime
prevention education and community advocacy for crime prevention programs to the public under a
separate City Secretary contract and is committed to efforts to reduce and prevent gang and youth
violence in Fort Worth SCC also realizes that exposure to violence early in life is a significant risk factor
for later involvement in violent behavior The Juvenile Witness Intervention Project is a joint program
between the City and SCC to provide intervention services to juveniles who witness violent crimes This
M&C is to clarify the wording of M&C C-23264 to allow the agreement to be funded annually at the
$65 401 00 level each year that the agreement option is exercised by the City and SCC
This joint program is very successful and has been in operation at the SCC location since February
2009 The City will continue to provide a Fort Worth Police Department civilian employee to provide and

reimburse the City for the annual salary and benefits of the coordinator supplies equipment, and
mileage The SCC also provides office space for the coordinator
