HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 3792-09-2009A Resolution NO 3792-09-2009 A RESOLUTION MAINTAINING CURRENT INSURANCE AND VEHICLE-AGE REQUIREMENTS FOR TAXIS WHEREAS the City Council of the City of Fort Worth is committed to protecting the public health safety and welfare and has expressed this commitment in part by adopting Ordinance 17412 which regulates vehicles that provide passenger transportation services m exchange for compensation within the jurisdiction of the City and WHEREAS a Regional Taxicab Task Force (Task Force) was formed by representatives of the City of Fort Worth the City of Dallas DFW Airport and the North Central Texas Council of Governments to address specific issues raised by representatives of the Association of United Taxicab Operators and driver owned companies and WHEREAS on June 9 2009 the City Council approved Resolution No 3745 appointing representatives to serve on the Task Force s Policy and Working Groups and WHEREAS, the meetings of the Task Force have focused primarily on a proposal to authorize a'temporary one year reduction m liability insurance requirements for taxicabs to $100 000 combined single limit and temporary one year increase m the maximum vehicle age for all taxis from five years to six years (the Proposal) and WHEREAS the Task Force failed to reach consensus on the Proposal, and WHEREAS, on September 15 2009 the Crty's Task Force representatives provided the Infrastructure and Transportation Committee (ITC) with an assessment of the Proposal and a report on the Task Force meetings, and WHEREAS following discussion, the ITC voted to recommend that the City Council adopt a resolution maintaining the City's current insurance and vehicle-age requirements. RESOLUTION NO 3793-09-2009 NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH TEXAS THAT The following requirements of Ordinance No 17412 are to be maintained. insurance must provide minimum coverage m an amount of no less than Five Hundred Thousand Dollars ($500 000 00) combined single limit liability per occurrence; the age limit for standard taxicabs is five (5) years, and the age limit for alternative fuel vehicle taxicabs is seven (7) years.
