HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 3795-09-2009A Resolution NO 3795-09-2009 NAMING THE PROPOSED PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE CROSSING THE TRINITY RIVER AT TRINITY PARK THE PHYLLIS J TILLEY MEMORIAL BRIDGE WHEREAS the City of Fort Worth (the City") is currently completing construction documents for the purpose of bidding and constructing a new pedestrian bridge across the Trinity River linking the City s downtown on the east to Trinity Park on the west (the `Pedestrian Bridge ') and WHEREAS the design and construction costs of the Pedestrian Bridge will be paid from a combination of capital improvement bond revenues federal transportation grant funds and a $200 000 00 donation provided to the City by Streams and Valleys Inc anon profit corporation whose purpose is among other things to encourage the recreational use of rivers streams and creeks m Tarrant County and WHEREAS in gratitude for the generous donation from Streams and Valleys Inc it is recommended that the City name the Pedestrian Bridge m honor of Phyllis J Tilley a founding member of Streams and Valleys Inc who was instrumental in the planning and positive environmental activism that has led to a greater appreciation for the Trinity River s attributes m the City NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS THAT the Pedestrian Bridge crossing the Trinity River linking the City s downtown on the east to Trinity Park on the west will be named the `Phyllis J Tilley Memorial Bridge in honor of Phyllis J Tilley a founding member of Streams and Valleys Inc whose commitment and dedication to that organization s mission increased awareness of the beauty and recreational opportunities in Trinity Park and the open space system that exists along much of the Trinity River ORT WORT fi City of Fort Worth, Texas Mayor and Council Communication COUNCIL ACTION: Approved on 9/29/2009 - aes. No. 3795-09-2009 ,_ __ ..__ r ,,,; DATE Tuesday September 29 2009 REFERENCE NO G-16717 LOG NAME 02PHYLLIS TlLLEY BRIDGE SUBJECT Adopt a Resolution Naming the Proposed Pedestrian Bridge Crossing the Trinity River at Trinity Park the 'Phyllis J Tilley Memorial Bridge RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the City Council adopt the attached resolution naming the proposed pedestrian bridge crossing the Trinity River at Trinity Park the 'Phyllis J Tilley Memorial Bridge DISCUSSION The City is currently completing construction documents for the purpose of bidding and constructing a new pedestrian bridge which will provide an additional linkage from downtown to Trinity Park. The bridge is currently estimated to cost $2 000 000 00 for design and construction Funding is provided from the City's Capital Improvement Program -Trinity River Vision federal transportation grant funds and a significant contribution raised by Streams and Valleys, Inc. Streams and Valleys Inc has committed to providing $200 000 00 in funding to help make this bridge a reality As such it has been requested that in return for Streams and Valleys Inc 's generous contribution this new pedestrian bridge be named the Phyllis J Tilley Memorial Bridge Phyllis J Tilley was a founding member of Streams and Valleys, Inc and was instrumental in the planning and positive environmental activism that has led many citizens to the park, its' recreational opportunities and the open space system that exists along much of the Trinity River today The Parks and Community Services Advisory Board endorsed the naming of this bridge in honor of Ms Tilley at its May 27 2009 meeting The naming of this pedestrian bridge is consistent with the City's policy on the naming of City facilities This project is located in COUNCIL DISTRICT 9 and is considered a Citywide facility FISCAL INFORMATION /CERTIFICATION The Financial Management Services Director certifies that this action will have no material effect on City funds FUND CENTERS TO Fund/Account/Centers FROM Fund/Account/Centers ___._ .
