Gonzales ADOPTED AND EFFECTIVE: January 24, 2017 Ordinance No. 22564-01-2017 Page 1 of 1 City of Fort Worth, Texas Mayor and Council Communication COUNCIL ACTION: Approved on 1/24/2017 - Ordinance No. 22564-01-2017 DATE: Tuesday, January 24, 2017 REFERENCE NO.: **G-18923 LOG NAME: 1717MBEREVENUEFY17 SUBJECT: Adopt Ordinance Increasing the Estimated Receipts and Appropriations in the General Fund, Economic Development Department, in an Amount Up to $6,000.00 and Authorize Use of Revenue Derived from City of Fort Worth Hosted Workshops and Advocacy Events in an Amount Up to $6,000.00 for Food and Miscellaneous Materials Related to the Workshops (ALL COUNCIL DISTRICTS) RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Council: 1. Adopt Ordinance increasing receipts and appropriations in the General Fund, Economic Development Department, in an amount up to $6,000.00; and 2. Authorize the use of revenue derived from City of Fort Worth hosted workshops in an amount up to $6,000.00, from the General Fund, Economic Development Department, for food and miscellaneous materials related to the workshops. DISCUSSION: The Office of Business Diversity, a division of the Economic Development Department, has increased its outreach efforts in an attempt to grow capacity as it relates to Minority, Women and Small Business Enterprise (M/W/SBE) procurement opportunities. One aspect of these increased efforts are a series of workshops hosted and put on by the City to inform contractors of specific bidding opportunities as well as training workshops on the bidding and estimating process. The need to charge a minimal fee of$12.00 per person for the workshops and events is necessary to offset the cost for food and other associated expenses (i.e. print media, rentals, etc.) related to the workshops. The funds appropriated in the attached ordinance, in the amount of$6,000.00, were not included in the Fiscal Year 2017 Budget because the workshops were not planned until after the Fiscal Year 2017 Budget was submitted. In Fiscal Year 2017, the workshops will be on-going as part of the Economic Development's outreach efforts in an attempt to grow capacity as it relates to Minority, Women and Small Business Enterprise (M/W/SBE) for larger in scale procurement opportunities This M&C does not request approval of a contract with a business entity. FISCAL INFORMATION /CERTIFICATION: The Financial Management Services Director certifies that upon approval of the above recommendation and adoption of the attached appropriations ordinance, funds will be appropriated in the Economic Development Department's revenue fund Fiscal Year 17 operating budget.
