HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 3613-04-2008A Resolution NO 3613-04-2008 ADOPTING THE CITY OF FORT WORTH'S 2008 FEDERAL LEGISLATIVE PROGRAM WHEREAS, the 110th Congress adjourned in December of 2007 having taken the following actions relative to the City of Fort Worth's 2007 program • Appropriation of $350,000 for preliminary design and environmental work for I 35W (Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison), and • Appropriation of $191,593 for the Early Childhood Education work of the City (Congressman Michael C Burgess), and • Appropriation of $1 0 million for acquisition, demolition, and relocation of property for flood mitigation in the Lebow Channel of the Trinity River - grant pending (Congresswoman Kay Granger), and WHEREAS, it is the opinion of the City Governmental Relations staff and that of the staff of the Franklin Partnership, the City's federal legislative consultants, that the special requests for funding of the Trinity River Vision project, I 35W project and Early Childhood Education program approved by Council on February 7, 2007, continue to have merit and should be pursued during the course of the 110th Congress during 2008, and WHEREAS, March 4, 2008, the Governmental Relations staff, in conjunction with the Franklin Partnership, the City's federal legislative consultants, met with the members of the Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs Committee and recommended that continued funding for the Trinity River Vision project, $5 0 million in funding for initial environmental and design work for I 35W, and $900,000 in continued funding for the Early Childhood Education program be carried forward to the Texas and Fort Worth Congressional delegations In addition, the Committee voted to carry forward, as additional elements of the 2008 Congressional Program, a request for funding for the Commercial Corridor program of the City of Fort Worth, support for Congressional resolution of the funding issue for the National Archives Museum to be constructed in the Museum District, and support for adequate federal funding for the programs and work of Workforce Solutions for Tarrant County, and WHEREAS, upon full review and discussion at its March 4, 2008, meeting, the Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs Committee has recommended this amended program to the full City Council for review and approval. ~l~'~""l~ l~ ~~~~ ~1~ Resolution No 3613 04 2008 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS That the City Council 1 Adopts the 2008 Federal Legislative Program as outlined in the attached document, and 2 Authorizes and directs the City Manager to distribute copies of the City's 2008 Federal Legislative program to Members of Congress, to other cities, and other interested parties, and 3 Authorizes and directs the appropriate City officials to send letters of support or to meet with federal officials to discuss the City's position on the attached initiatives, and 4 Authorizes and directs the City's Governmental Relations staff and the City's federal legislative consultants to take the appropriate actions to advance the 2008 Federal Legislative Program before Congress, the Administration and corresponding federal agencies Adopted the 8th day of April 2008 ~~~ ~i~a „r` ATTEST~'~~ ~~ n~ ~ .--- x ~;~ ,~~ ~. ~1"' " ,~ c° A: Mart-y~Iendrix, City`~~S,ecretary ~.. ~..
