HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 3618-05-2008A Resolution No. 3618-05-2008 A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING AND ENDORSING NOMINATION OF A PORTION OF THE FORT WORTH BOTANIC GARDEN TO THE NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES WHEREAS, historic preservation is an effective tool for revrtahzmg neighborhoods, fostering local pride, and maintaining community character while enhancing overall hvabilrty• and, WHEREAS, May has been designated by the National Trust for Historic Preservation as National Preservation Month 2008 with a theme of This Place Matters" and WHEREAS the Fort Worth Botanic Garden is a place that matters to thousands of Fort Worth and Tarrant County residents who come to the garden for inspiration, knowledge and enjoyment; and WHEREAS, that portion of the Fort Worth Botanic Garden designed by Hare and Hare of Kansas Crty which roughly consists of the original Rock Springs Park (1929-1935) and the Horseshoe (ca. 1954), is being nominated to the National Register of Historic Places as an excellent example of a designed landscape and as the first municipal botanic garden established in the State of Texas with the municipal rose garden cited as an outstanding feature of the garden, and WHEREAS m celebration of National Preservation Month, the Fort Worth Crty Council wishes to support and endorse the nomination of the Fort Worth Botanic Garden to the National Register of Historic Places sponsored by the Fort Worth Botanical Society the Fort Worth Garden Club, the Garden Club Council of Fort Worth and Texas Garden Clubs, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS, THAT The City of Fort Worth supports and endorses the nomination of the described portion of the Fort Worth Botanic Garden to the National Register of Historic Places.
