HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 3628-06-2008A Resolution NO 3628-06-2008 ADOPTING ATEN-YEAR HOMELESSNESS PLAN AND AMENDING THE COMPREHENSIVE PLAN TO INCORPORATE THE TEN-YEAR PLAN WHEREAS, homeless people reside in Fort Worth, Texas, and are our neighbors, constituents, family members and fnends, and WHEREAS, Fort Worth s vision to be Texas `Most Livable Crty" cannot be realized without civic leadership and funding to help end homelessness, and WHEREAS, the City of Fort Worth strives to be a better partner with community and farth- based organizations in their efforts to help end homelessness, and WHEREAS, the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development and the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness have encouraged local communities to develop ten-year plans to end chronic homelessness, and WHEREAS, the Mayor's Advisory Commission on Homelessness was created to advise the City Council on policies, plans and methods for addressing homelessness and to develop aten-year plan to end chronic homelessness, and WHEREAS, the Commission has researched local conditions, national best practices, and homelessness plans adopted, funded and implemented by other communities, and WHEREAS, the Commission has incorporated feedback from focus groups of homeless people, health care professionals, downtown executives, business and neighborhood leaders, national experts and clergy as well as written comments and testimony at public forums, and WHEREAS, the Commission has collaborated with the community to develop Directions Home Making Homelessness Rare, Short Term and Non-Recurring in Fort Worth, Texas, within Ten Years and recommends that the City Council adopt the plan as the City's official ten-year plan to end chronic homelessness, and WHEREAS, on June 10 2008, the Cnty Council conducted a public hearing on the Directions Home plan, at which the public was given the opportunity to provide comments, RESOLUTION NO 3628-06-2008 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS, TO• 1 Adopt Directions Home Making Homelessness Rare, Short Term and Non-Recurring in Fort Worth, Texas, within Ten Years as the Crty's official ten-year plan to end chronic homelessness. 2 Collaborate with homeless people and the community at large to fund and implement the ten- year plan to end chronic homelessness. 3 Request that the City Manager include funding with which to implement the plan s lugh-priority recommendations m hts proposed FY2009 General Fund budget, to the extent that the inclusion of such funding might be appropriate and feasible. 4 Amend the Comprehensive Plan to incorporate the Directions Home plan.
