HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 3632-07-2008A Resolution NO 3632-07-2008 Paying Tribute to Fort Worth Citizen, Mrs. Hazel Harvey Peace WHEREAS, Mrs. Hazel Harvey Peace shaped the lives of several generations of African-Americans m Fort Worth through education, advocacy and through her unparalleled and unwavering support of her commumty• and WHEREAS, Mrs. Peace graduated Fort Worth Colored High School -later renamed LM. Terrell High School - at age 13 and returned to the school to teach at age 16 after earning a degree from Howard Umversity• and WHEREAS, as an English teacher and debate coach, and later as vice principal, Mrs. Peace set an example for all those who would follow to become strong leaders and successful professionals in Fort Worth s African-American commumty demanding excellence, hard work and fairness from all those who count themselves among her pupils, and WHEREAS, Mrs. Peace brought her values and skills to vital programs and projects citywide though service to organizations that sought to improve the quality of life for all residents, and WHEREAS, Mrs. Peace was a titan during one of the most transformative times m Western history and though her passing on June 8, 2008, is a great loss to all of the lives she touched, rt serves as a call to always aspire to greatness and never stand idle in the face of great challenge or change. RESOLUTION NO 3632-07-2008 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS, THAT We, the Fort Worth City Council, pay tribute to the long life and great deeds of a remarkable woman, Mrs. Hazel Harvey Peace, and extend our deepest sympathy and prayers to her family her students and her friends who will struggle to cope with this loss but who will celebrate the life of Mrs. Peace by ensuring her legacy will forever remain strong in the hearts and minds of those who call Fort Worth home.
