HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 3666-10-2008A Resolution NO 3666-10-2008 NAMING THE NEW MUNICIPAL BUILDING AT EVANS/ROSEDALE PLAZA THE HAZEL HARVEY PEACE CENTER FOR NEIGHBORHOODS WHEREAS Mrs Hazel Harvey Peace shaped the lives of several generations of African Americans in Fort Worth through education advocacy and her unparalleled and unwavering support of her community and WHEREAS Mrs Peace graduated from Fort Worth Colored High School -later renamed I M Terrell High School - at age 13 and, after earning a degree from Howard University returned to the school to teach at age 16 and WHEREAS as an English teacher and debate coach and later as vice principal Mrs Peace set an example for Fort Worths African American community to become strong leaders and successful professionals demanding excellence hard work and fairness from all those who counted themselves among her pupils and WHEREAS Mrs Peace brought her values and skills to vital programs and projects Citywide through service to organizations that sought to improve the quality of life for all residents and WHEREAS Mrs Peace was a titan during one of the most transformative times to Fort Worth history and whose passing on June 8 2008 was a great loss to all of the lives she touched and WHEREAS Mrs Peace s life serves as a call to always aspire to greatness and never stand idle in the face of great challenge or change NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS, THAT The municipal building to be constructed at the Evans/Rosedale Plaza be named the Hazel Harvey Peace Center for neighborhoods Adopted thisl~l'4~r'`t'h~day . ~ 1~ " '~ B y~ • _--= Marty Hendry C~ a~ of October 2008 ~~~~e"cretary L< .., APPfiOVE~ CITY COUNCIL OCT 1 4 2008 ~:d~~ City Secretary of the ~itv of Fort Worth, Texas
