HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 4749-02-2017 A Resolution No. 4749-02-2017 SUPPORTING THE CITY OF FORT WORTH'S APPLICATION FOR NORTH CENTRAL TEXAS COUNCIL OF GOVERNMENTS TRANSPORTATION ALTERNATIVES SET ASIDE PROGRAM CALL,FOR$4 MILLION FOR VARIOUS CITY PROJECTS AND COMMITTING$1 MILLION IN TRANSPORTATION GRANT MATCH FUNDING AUTHORIZED IN THE VOTER APPROVED 2014 CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM WHERE,AS, on December 12, 2016 the North Central "Te as Council of Governments opened the 20171'ranspoitation Alternatives Set Aside Program; and 'WHEREAS,the Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside(TA Set-Aside)Program was authorized under Section 1109 of F'ixing America'.TSinfiace Trans]?ortation Act(PASTAct) (the current transportation funding and authori7ntion bill)and provides ftinding for prograrns and prqjects defined as transportation alternatives. The TA Set-Aside Program is similar to the former Transportation Alternatives Progra.11,1, rl ransportation Enhancement,and Safe Routes to School programs; and WHEREAS,the 12--courity NCTCOG Mel ropolitan Planning Area has been sub-allocated approximately$23 million in TA. Set-Aside Program funds which will be available to award as part of the 2017 Call for Projects in our region. General types of projects eligible under this program include on-and off-road pedestrian and bicycle facilities, infrastructure prqjects for improving non-driver access to public transportation and enhanced mobility,and pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure associated with Safe Routes to School(SR TS)projects that will substantially improve safety and the ability for students to walk and bicycle to school;and WHEREAS, the City of Fort Worth desires to continue to eXrpand it's much needed Safe Routes to Schools Program by making application for $4 million in various projects and corranitting $1 million in matching funds. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH,TEXAS: The City of Fort Worth fully supports the application to the North Central Texas Council of (iovernments for$4 million in'TA Set-Aside Program funding for the City's Safe Routes to Schools program and commits $1 mill ion as the required local match, if the grant is awarded,from the 2014 Capital Improvement Program for transportation grant matching projects.
