A Resolution No 3479-04-2007 SUPPORTING THE FORMATION OF THE HEALTH INSTITUTES OF TEXAS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS HEALTH SCIENCE CENTER WHEREAS good physical and mental health of the citizens of Texas is vital to their quality of life and WHEREAS the economic educational cultural and social success of the State of Texas depends upon the health and wellbeing of its citizens and WHEREAS battling the current most important health issues negatively affecting the health of Texans requires a unique, comprehensive approach through a combination of public health information and basic research, and using that information to build new models of provider training and care delivery and WHEREAS the University of North Texas Health Science Center combines highly regarded public health programs in health surveillance, epidemiology and health disparities with a research core that has the highest return on investment in the State of Texas with a federal to-state expenditure of 194 75 to 1 and WHEREAS the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine at the University of North Texas Health Science Center is ranked 34 among 145 medical schools in the nation for its innovative programs in primary care and rural medicine and WHEREAS, the University of North Texas Health Science Center practices an integrative model of research which preceded the National Institutes of Health `roadmap initiative mandating collaborative interdisciplinary research, and Resolution No 3479-04-2007 WHEREAS the University of North Texas Health Science Centers Health Institutes of Texas will have a $642 million economic impact on the city of Fort Worth, Tarrant County and the State of Texas in the first five years NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS That the City of Fort Worth supports the University of North Texas Health Science Center combining its expertise in public health, research, primary care and rural medicine into The Health Institutes of Texas a blending of three centers The Texas Center for Health Outcomes The Texas Center for Translational Research and The Texas Center for Primary and Rural Care and That the City of Fort Worth supports the University of North Texas Health Science Center s efforts to form The Health Institutes of Texas and respectfully requests passage of Texas Senate $ill 1248 to implement The Health Institutes of Texas plan to provide the much needed solutions for the health issues Texans face Adopted this 24th day of April 2007 wT rrt.Pl jtr~ ATTEST _~~ .~ ~- j ~. - APPROVFQ ~~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~: CITY CQUItGIL sy APR 2 4 2007 ~,~ F., Marty Hendrix"'Gity Secretary ~~ ., ~.~ ,~ ~'~ 4 ~*,~ City Secretary of the City ©t Fort Worth, Texas
