HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 3511-08-2007.~ ~~ ;~ ~~ ~~ ~- Resolution ~~ 3511-08-2007 AMENDING THE TERRELL HEIGHTS (FORMERLY NEAR SOUTHEAST) HISTORIC DISTRICT AS DESCRIBED HEREIN, FOR DESIGNATION AS A HISTORIC AND CULTURAL LANDMARK (HC) DISTRICT WHEREAS, the Historic Southside neighborhood is bounded roughly 6y Vickery Boulevard on the north, Exeter Street and the Fort Worth & Western Railroad on the east, East Rosedale Street on the south, and Evans Avenue and Kentucky Avenue on the west; WHEREAS, by 1902 the Lake Uew streetcar line ran into the heart of this community lending to the rapid growth and development of the entire Historic Southside neighborhood; WHEREAS, by the 1910s the Historic Southside had become the premier neighborhood for Fort Worth's African American population; WHEREAS, the Historic Southside neighborhood has elected to name the new district Terrell Heights; WHEREAS, the City Council will consider designating the Terrell Heights Historic District, which is part of the Historic Southside neighborhood, as a Historic and Cultural Landmark District on August 9 2007 WHEREAS, the area between Vickery Boulevard and Hattie Street includes a similar age, style ' and method of construction and architecture as well as a cohesive cultural history as the Terrell Heights Historic District; and WHEREAS, the Fort Worth City Council would like to consider amending the Terrell Heights Historic District to include the area between Vickery Boulevard and Hattie Street for designation as a Historic and Cultural Landmark (HC) District; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE FORT WORTH CITY COUNCIL. That the City Council nominates the amended area of the Terrell Heights Historic District for designation as a Historic and Cultural Landmark (HC) District and requests the City's Historic Preservation Officer to prepare an appropriate application.for public hearings to be conducted by the Historical and Cultural Landmarks Commission, the Zoning Commission, and the City Council.
