A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
FORT WORTH, TEXAS, AUTHORIZING THE SETTING OF A
CALLED-SPECIAL MEETING ON NOVEMBER 19, 2007 FOR
THE PURPOSE OF CANVASSING THE RESULTS OF TWO
SPECIAL ELECTIONS TO BE HELD ON NOVEMBER 6. 2007,
AND CALLING FOR ARUN-OFF ELECTION, IF NECESSARY
WHEREAS, on August 21 2007 the City Council of the City of Fort Worth adopted Ordinance
No 17717-08-2007 later amended by Ordinance No 17792-09-2007 calling for and ordering an
election to be held on Tuesday November 6, 2007 for the election of a Council Member in Council
District 9 to serve the remainder of an unexpired term held by Council Member Wendy Davis until the
regular City Council election m May 2009• and
WHEREAS, on August 28, 2007 the City Council of the City of Fort Worth adopted Ordinance
No 1'7732-08-2007 later amended by Ordinance No 17793-09-2007 calling for and ordering an
election to be held on Tuesday November 6 2007 for the purpose of submitting to the qualified voters
of said city the question of whether the City of Fort Worth should be authorized to establish collective
bargaining for the firefighters if a ma~orrty of the affected employees favor representation by an
employees association, and
WHEREAS, on November 6, 2007 special elections will be held at which the. qualified voters
of the Crty have the opportunity to vote for the purpose of electing a Council Member from District 9•
and on the question of whether the City of Fort Worth should be authorized to establish collective
bargaining for the firefighters if a majority of the affected employees favor representation by an
employees association, and
WHEREAS, on November 6 2007 a special election will be held to fill the unexpired term of
State Representative District 97 which encompasses a portion of Tarrant County and
WHEREAS, if the District 97 special election requires arun-off election, the Governor will set
the date for all Tarrant County run-off elections resulting from November 6 2007 balloting; and
WHEREAS, if no run-off election is needed for the District 97 special election, the City Council
will set the run-off election date for Council District 9 if necessary and

WHEREAS, pursuant to Chapter 67 of the Texas Election Code, the Crty Council of the Crty of
Fort Worth is required to canvass the returns and declare the results of the elections between
November 14 2007 and November 19 2007 and
WHEREAS, there are no scheduled meetings of the Crty Council between November 14 2007
and November 19 2007
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
FORT WORTH.
SECTION 1. That the declarations and findings contained m the preamble of this Resolution
are hereby found to be true and correct and shall be made a part hereof.
SECTION 2. That the Crty Council hereby finds that a called special meeting for the purpose
of canvassing the returns of the two special elections to be conducted on November 6 2007 is necessary
SECTION 3. That the City Council further finds that a called special meeting of the Crty
Council should be set at 10 a.m. on Monday November 19 2007 for the purpose of canvassing the
returns of the two special elections and, if necessary ordering arun-off election for the election of a
Council Member m Council District 9 to serve the remainder of an unexpired term.
SECTION 4 That the Crty Council further finds that declaring the date ordering arun-off
election for Council Member Distract 9 is subject to the Governor's call of a run-off election for State
Representative Distract 97
SECTION 5 That rt is hereby officially found and determined that the meeting of the Fort
Worth. Crty Council at which this Resolution was adopted was open to the public, and that public notice
of the time, place and purpose of said meeting was given, as required by Chapter 551 of the Texas
Government Code.
SECTION 6. That this Resolution shall take effect upon adoption on this 30~' day of October
