AUTHORIZING THE CLOSURE OF A PORTION OF THE 3300 BLOCK OF
MISSISSIPPI AVENUE AT THE FORT WORTH AND WESTERN RAILROAD
CROSSING
WHEREAS, The City of Fort Worth desires to physically close the 3300 Block of Mississippi
Avenue adjacent to the John Randol Addition, from a point 360 feet south of Devitt Street to a point 50
feet south of the Fort Worth and Western Railroad tracks 150 feet long, 45 feet wide and containing
6,750 square feet, more or less,
WHEREAS, the Plan Commission of the City of Fort Worth has reviewed this request and
recommends that the request be approved,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
FORT WORTH, TEXAS
That the existing street, a portion of the 3300 Block of Mississippi Avenue at the Fort Worth &
Western Railroad crossing (DOT No 797 678Y railroad milepost 247 86), and as more specifically
described in Exhibit A, attached hereto and incorporated herein, be physically closed with a barricade,
with the City of Fort Worth to retain title to the public right-of way m said street, retammg any and all
easements for existing and prospective utilities, and retammg the right of access at all times for the
purpose of maintaining existing and prospective utility facilities located m the aforesaid portions of said
street.
The City reserves the right, at the sole discretion of the City Council, to reopen by resolution the
aforesaid street right-of way to public travel at any time by directing the removal of the aforesaid
barncade, reconstruction of the roadway and the installation of appropriate railroad traffic control
devices.

Adopt a Resolution to Close a Portion of the 3300 Block of Mississippi Avenue at the Fort Worth &
Western Railroad Crossing
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council adopt the attached resolution closing a 45-foot wide by 150-foot
long portion of the 3300 block of Mississippi Avenue beginning approximately 360' south of Devitt Street,
adjacent to the John Randol Addition Fort Worth Texas Actual physical closure is recommended adjacent
to both sides of the Fort Worth & Western Railroad company (FWWR) crossing
DISCUSSION
As a result of a February 2005 settlement between the City of Fort Worth and the FWWR, the City is
obligated to close two railroad crossings by March 31 2006 This FWWR railroad grade crossing on
Mississippi Avenue was evaluated by TPW for traffic access and for emergency vehicle access TPW
recommended closing the road to promote safety by eliminating the railroad crossing
The request to close this portion of Mississippi Avenue was recommended for approval by the City Plan
Commission on February 22 2006 Reviewing City departments have no objection to this request.
