APPOINTING CERTAIN MEMBERS OF THE
FORT WORTH COMMISSION FOR WOMEN
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Fort Worth (the City Council )
previously adopted Ordinance No 8911 creating the Fort Worth Commission on the Status
of Women and
WHEREAS, the ordinance was amended with M&C G 13910 on March 18 2003 to
change the name to the Fort Worth Commission for Women (Commission) and to
increase membership with the City s Council s approval from nine to nineteen members
by including representatives from ten organizations related to women s issues and
WHEREAS, the terms for some Commission members expired October 1 2005 and
WHEREAS, Article II Section 1(b) of the Bylaws for the Fort Worth Commission
for Women, as amended on February 6 2006 ("Bylaws) provide that Commission
members for places 10 - 19 shall be recommended to City Council by ten organizations
that have shown an interest in issues relating to women
WHEREAS, Article II Section 3(b) of the Bylaws provides that Commission
members in Places 10 - 19 will serve for one year terms expiring October 1 of the
following year
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS THAT
1 The City Council hereby appoints the persons listed below to the Commission for terms
beginning October 1 2005 and expiring on October 1 2006 representing the
organizations listed below

RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council appoint the following persons representing the following
organizations to the Fort Worth Commission for Women
Place Individual Organization
11 Kathy Lanier Harris Methodist Health Foundation
14 Sue Ann Martinez Hispanic Women's Network
17 Adela Gonzalez University of North Texas Health Science Center
18 Shari Macioch Business & Professional Women Region 4
DISCUSSION
The Bylaws for the Fort Worth Commission for Women state
'SECTION 1 Appointment and Number The Commission shall be composed of 19 members. Members
shall serve without compensation and shall be subject to removal by the City Council at any time
a Nine members shall be appointed to Places 1 through 9 by City Council
b For members in Places 10 through 19 the Commission shall recommend to City Council
individuals nominated by ten organizations that have shown an interest in issues relating to women
Harris Methodist Health Foundation Hispanic Women s Network, the University of North Texas Health
Science Center and Business & Professional Women Region 4 are four of the ten organizations which
traditionally hold seats on the Fort Worth Commission for Women Those organizations have
recommended the women listed above to serve as their representatives on the Commission have been
approved by the members of the Commission and are now recommended for appointment.
These members will serve terms expiring on October 1 2006
