Honoring the Life any! service of Dole Willis, sr

WHEREAS, the relatives, friends, and colleagues of Doyle Willis, Sr were deeply
saddened by his death on Thursday June 22 2006 and
WHEREAS, Doyle Willis Sr was born August 18 1907 in Kaufman County and,
as a young man, earned degrees in economics and education at the University of Texas and
a law degree at Georgetown University while working for U S Representative Sam
Rayburn, and
WHEREAS, following his service in the Army Air Force during World War II,
where he earned a Bronze Star for his service in the Pacific, he established a law practice
in Fort Worth, and
WHEREAS, responding to the urging of a number of citizens, he ran for the State
Legislature and beginning in 1947 served for 42 years including terms in both the Texas
House of Representatives and the Texas Senate -the second longest tenure in Texas
history and
WHEREAS, he also served as a member of the Fort Worth City Council from April
16 19b3 to February 10 1964 and was consistently involved in many City issues and
WHEREAS, Doyle Willis, Sr gave selflessly to his country his state, and his
community serving in each capacity with valor wit and dedication.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS
That the Fort Worth City Council City staff and citizens of Fort Worth mourn the
passing of Doyle Willis, Sr and
That the Fort Worth City Council, City staff and citizens of Fort Worth pay tribute
to the memory of Doyle Willis Sr a recognized and valuable citizen of Fort Worth,
Tarrant County and the State of Texas and extend our deepest sympathy to the members of
his family and his many friends.
