In Support of the Sale of Eagle Mountain Lake Park
Property to the Tarrant Regional Vllater District
NO 3389-07 2006
WHEREAS, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) currently owns property located in
Tarrant County commonly known as the Eagle Mountain Lake State Park; and
WHEREAS, the property was originally purchased by TPWD in 1980 for the purposes of
establishing a S#ate Park within Tarrant County to provide recreational opportunities for citizens of
Tarrant County; and
WHEREAS, the TPWD has determined not to develop or operate this property as a State Park and
has listed this property as underutilized and surplus property with the General Land Office who is charged
with the sale of such property for the State; and
WHEREAS, offers made by Tarrant County over the las# two years to purchase and/or enter into
long term Iease arraignments for the property, to develop the property as a park, have been rejected by the
State as financially inadequate; and
WHEREAS, the Tarrant Regional Water Dis#rict (TRWD) has tendered a more generous offer to
purchase the property a# terms much more favorable to the TPWD;
NOW THEREFORE BE TT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF FORT WORTH TEXAS
That, the City of Fort Worth does hereby strongly support the sale of 400 acres of the Eagle
Mountain Lake Park property to the Tarrant Regional Water District who intends to maintain the land as
a park, thereby conserving this natural resource for future generations of Tarrant County citizens.
