HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 80 f f I 4 RESOLUTION FILE NO'' s y RESOLUTION ON MINORITY EMPLOYMENT 1 WHEREAS: City Ordinance No. 5802 adopted in 1967 states, .14 It is hereby declared to be the public policy of the City of Fort Worth that all its residents and persons subject a ;'t', to +, to its jurisdiction shall enjoy equal freedom to pursue their `aspirations and that discrimination against any individual or group because of race, creed, color or national origin is ,t detrimental to the peace, progress and welfare of the City"; and , ;�JI3EREAS: The city has had a stated administrative policy for a decade that city employees be hired and promoted without regard to race, color, creed or national origin; and Y WHEREAS: Efforts thus far by the city have resulted in the employment of minority persons who make up only about 120 of the full time work force as compared to the population ratio of about " 25%; with about 50% minority employees in unskilled job classifications with low pay; and ' WHEREAS: The Emergency Employment Act may provide additional funds for hiring city personnel, which funds can be utilized to hire } qualified minority persons to improve the racial balance of the' employees of the city. i NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council hereby declares ?,".:,,';that discrimination in city employment based on race, color, creed, sex or,national origin will not be tolerated; that the City of Fort Worth is an equal opportunity employer and does direct and order the institution of the following program of Affirmative Action designed to translate the City's tpolicy,into results. I:- GOAL: �., 1. The primary goal is to hire qualified minority people in order to reach in two years the proportion of minority employees Y paralleling the racial and ethnic composition of the city population, if at all possible. Ii. STAFF: STAFF: In the event funds are available from the Emergency Employment Act "a staff consisting of at least a director of Equal Employment Opportunity and a Black recruiter and a Mexican-American recruiter r?, ,,shall be employed to assist in reaching the above goals.
