Adopt the attached resolution for acceptance of grant funds in the amount of$52,000.00 and to make assurances as required by the State of Texas, Office of the Governor, Criminal Justice Division. DISCUSSION: Each year, the Criminal Justice Division (CJD) of the Governor's Office funds projects throughout the State of Texas under the State Justice Assistance Grant Program. The Fort Worth Police Department submitted an application for $52,000.00 to purchase equipment for its Special Events/Emergency Response (SEER) Unit. The SEER Unit is responsible for coordinating and planning all emergency preparedness and disaster response issues for the Fort Worth Police Department. The SEER Unit's responsibilities include, but are not limited to, five major areas of emergency preparedness: Incident Management Operations, Organization of Rapid Deployment Teams, Training, Equipment Management, and Rehabilitation and Hydration of Officers. In its application, the Police Department allocated $35,000.00 to purchase enforcement rated gas mask cartridges and the Carbon and Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) rated gas mask cartridges. The remaining $17,000.00 will allow for the purchase of cases to store existing masks and prevent damage. By purchasing the gas mask cartridges, first responders will be better protected as they perform their duties. This application is equipment only; therefore, indirect costs do not apply. If awarded, these funds will be included in the department's proposed Fiscal Year 2018 budget. The CJD requires that the City adopt a resolution to provide assurances that funds will be returned to the CJD, in full, in the event of loss or misuse of CJD grant funds. The City is also required to designate an official authorized to accept, reject, or alter the grant.
