SUPPORTING LEGISLATION TO REQUIRE LANDSCAPING WITH
NEW ROAD PROJECTS
WHEREAS it has been illustrated that landscaping results in increased real estate
values reduces pollution and creates a sense of community and place and
WHEREAS, research has shown that the presence of trees in neighborhoods
increases market values of residential homes by 13% and
WHEREAS, recent surveys have shown that Texans are in favor of spending public
funds to make Texas more beautiful (57% favored expending more money on
beautification) and
WHEREAS it has also been shown that tourists prefer to travel to places of beauty
and interest
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
FORT WORTH,
That City Council supports legislation that would require the Texas Department of
Transportation to earmark at feast ~1 % of the total construction cost of each new
and/or enhancement roadway project for landscaping improvements
